Strange Fame

One of my Spanish teachers is randomly famous. She teaches my Literature class and her name is Heusinkveld. Not a common name for Hispanic experts, right?

Well I was reading my Spanish Business textbook and the author was droning on about quantifying and describing Hispanic business practices and culture and he says something along the lines of "Its very difficult, but some researchers have tried to do it (Perez, Fuentes, Aguilera, Heusinkveld, Guiterrez, and Lopez)" So, that definitely has to be my teacher. Honestly, there are no other Hispanic researchers by that name. I went to class and showed her and she went on an ego trip for like 10 minutes which is hilarious, because she's this very polite, soft-spoken Iowa lady. She said stuff like, "Well, I am known in certain circles." and "I've been in this business a while." Awesomeness.

Other awesome quotes from Spanish teachers: My Argentinian Film teacher was saying (in spanish) that all the South American constitutions are based on ours... "the Philadelphia one." She even said that bit in English. I laughed.

I have some fame too. A stranger posted today on my Book Club blog. It was actually a reply to one of Miranda's posts, but still. People know me.

Barack Day!!!

Today Barack is coming to Clemson.

My joy runneth over. Michelle and I are ready to camp out for good seats/spots. Security around this place is tight.

I actually have no idea what else to say about this. But you know I'm excited.

Wanna hear an awesome story about making friends? Last night at TTT I saw this guy from my spanish class (whose name I don't know, whom I've never spoken to) and I remembered that my espanol-speaking friend Michelle is always looking for spanish-talkers to practice with. So we go over to him and I'm like, "Hi, I don't remember your name."

He says, "Ah, me llamo Pablo, que tal?"
Then I mumble something in spanglish because I've had several beers and its insanely loud in this bar and I don't understand a word of his response but in fantastic Michelle-style she jumps in and starts habla-ing with him so I turn to introduce myself to the rest of the group. Immediately, the kid next to Pablo goes, "You're in my spanish class."

Um, sure. I've never seen this kid before in my life. But, I'm not friendly in class so its possible. Turns out Casey is in my Lit class, and studied abroad at Pablo's university and now Pablo is here. In the meantime Michelle is inviting strangers to her house so she can feed them. Awesomeness.

The end.

Vote Barack.

TryLingual Yourself.

Trying to learn French while studying Spanish results in learning neither. My english is now a little shaky.

Doing it all in the sun gets you burnt.

Perhaps I was not meant to be trilingual.

Kerry is the most brilliant man I know: "Any major that you study with a magazine instead of a textbook is worthless." Also, as of last night sexilicious is a word.
