I love lamp.

I’ve been listening to the radio a lot on my drive to and from work, and despite the lack of decent programming, I still think it has enhanced my life.

For instance, this morning I was able to identify a specific cultural break between generations. I was in my car at 6:50am and when I turned on the radio they had a trivia thing going with a prize of 4 tickets to some relatively family-friendly concert. The announcer seemed surprised, the contest had been going for 3 songs and no one had called in with the correct answer. (Talladega was a wrong answer called in.)

The question was related to the date—July 16th—which is apparently Will Ferrell’s birthday. Will Ferrell was in the popular comedy, “Anchorman”. What city is the film set in?

It took me 0.002 seconds to answer this question in my head. I briefly considered reaching behind the seat to grab my cell phone and answer but decided not to when I realized it was impossible without Gadget arms. So I continued listening. It took 2 more songs and them playing a clip from the movie that mentioned San Diego by name before anyone called in with the correct answer.

This shocked me at first, but finally I just realized that “Anchorman” is probably one bit of pop culture shared by every person in college at the time of it’s release (probably the only movie quoted more than “Napoleon Dynamite” during my years at Clemson). No one driving to work before 7am has seen this movie more than once. So regardless of how overdone that movie is, I will now put it in the box of things defining my generation.

Milk was a bad choice.
